A Cyclist’s Guide to Merano: Lonely Roads & Steep Climbs VOL. 2
Episode 1: Merano – Terlan – Mölten – Vöran – Hafling
by Anna Tröbinger
In our FREEDL DOLCE CLUB series, we share the roads we call home in South Tyrol. Of course, names like Passo Stelvio and Timmelsjoch are legendary, but beyond those icons lies a whole world of hidden routes — sometimes spicy, sometimes flowing effortlessly.
This is FREEDL roadbike territory: where climbs reward you with silence, descents with freedom, and every coffee stop with that unmistakable dolce club feeling.

Route Details
Route: Merano – Terlan – Mölten – Vöran – Hafling
Distance: 66 km
Elevation: 1700 m
Time: 3–4 hours
Why Anna Loves It
Starting from Merano, this loop takes you through Terlan and up to the Möltner Plateau, before circling back via Vöran and Hafling. From Bolzano to the Texelgruppe, the panorama never lets up — endless views open up with every switchback.
It’s a road where you’ll spot more Panda 4x4s than cyclists, which makes the low traffic a real treat. The plateau itself is a dream to ride, rolling and spacious, with alpine meadows unfolding around every corner.
